The world of Amaret is ruled by the four elements, water, earth, wind, and fire. The world is split into four regions: Tanhj, Eterce, Aficcin, and Frohaf. The four regions were created by a god, each one symbolizing an element. After creating the basic elements of world, they needed to make the features of the land. They could not decide on who would get what, so they split the world into four areas, one for each of them. Ijs, the ice god, took the north. Aarde, the goddess of nature made a vast forest below the icy region, while Brahnd, god of fire, took the southern peninsula, a volcanic region. The middle region, Lucht, the god of air, took, and made into a vast plain filled with sweeping hills.
The land is infused with magic, and even the lowliest peasant possesses some talent of a sort. Thusly, magic users generally rule the land in which they preside.
